Hundreds of students, staff, family and friends gathered to celebrate a college's annual student awards ceremony.

Among all the winners and achievements being celebrated at the College of North West London in Dudden Hill Lane, Willesden was 17 year-old Mariana Fusle, who was the star of the night.

Mariana of Glendalmond Road, Harrow, was awarded Ambassador of the Year because she has shone in her ambassadorial role throughout her studies.

College ambassadors are involved in organising and running events such as open days, enrolment days and internal events as well as doing volunteer work.

Mariana has just completed her BTEC extended diploma in business and information technology (Level 3) and was one of the top students on her course.

She first arrived in the UK five years ago, she spoke little English and before attending the college had never used a computer before.

She said: “I have always been fascinated by how businesses work and being able to have an insight into how the biggest company in the computing industry operates is an amazing opportunity. Not only for developing my skills but also for my future career.”

In September Mariana will be going to Brunel university to study Business Computing but, before that, she will be taking up a work experience placement at Microsoft.
