Pupils and teachers at Heathland School, Eastcote Lane, raised nearly £1,200 by running around the school field 27 times, which added up to one mile.

Each child received a Sport Relief sticker for their effort and collected sponsorship money from friends and family.

Mohamed Abdi, chairman of the school council, said: “We always feel that it is important to give something back to our community and others and have fun at the same time.”

All 650 students and their teachers took part to raise £1,178.85.

l AT THE Bannister Stadium on Sunday morning runners gathered to run either one, three or six miles and Councillor David Perry, portfolio holder for community and cultural services, who completed a three-mile run, said: “The event was a huge success, and it was so great to see such a range of people taking part, children as young as four were running, and I even met an elderly gentleman of 85 with a walking stick who walked his mile. The atmosphere was great and everyone had a lot of fun, while doing their bit for a really worthy cause.”

Students from St Nicholas Primary School in Elstree took part in the popular event and raised £371.

Rosie Walsh, 11, from the school ran three miles with her friends.

She said: “We got into a group as we thought it was a good idea to take part.

“It was a great day and really fantastic weather. I really enjoyed it and there were loads of people there.”

l THE Princess Frederica School in Kensal Rise took part in the Sport Relief Mile by setting off from an aptly named local business.

Pupils (pictured right, inset) gathered at Mile Estate Agents, Chamberlayne Road, on Friday at 11am before starting their sponsored walk.

About £1,000 was raised by the children in total, thanks to a pound donation on the day from each student, and other sponsored events held by the pupils.

The estate agent agreed to match the pound donation each pupil made, which came to £240.

Last Wednesday talented young athletes from the school’s athletics club ran a mile, which went towards the £1,000 total.

Deputy head teacher Tim Wilson said: “The atmosphere (on Friday) was great, everyone got involved, and some of the older children completed the mile blindfolded to make it more of a challenge.”

The only ‘official’ Sport Relief event near Brent was held at The Golders Green Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Temple on Sunday. People from Barnet and Brent teamed up to raise thousands of pounds for the cause. In previous years the gathering has seen up to £13,000 raised.
