SCHOOL choirs will perform at The Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC’s Proms.

More than 100 Harrow children will sing in the premiere of choral work, The Angry Planet, by Bob Chilcott, at the classical music festival on Sunday.

The concert will be broadcast worldwide on Radio 3.

The BBC Singers have been leading a singing programme called ‘Go Sing!’ with Harrow primary and high school choirs for the last two years.

The schools involved are Canon Lane Junior School in Pinner, Canons High School in Edgware, Earlsmead Primary School in Harrow, Hatch End High School, Heathland School in Harrow, Marlborough Primary School in Harrow, Park High School in Stanmore, Priestmead Primary School in Harrow, and St John Fisher RC Primary School in Pinner.

Harrow Council’s music service’s deputy manager, Sue McCall said: “The BBC Singers have helped young people in Harrow discover the power and beauty of choral singing and, with the help of dedicated music teachers in schools, we now have thriving choirs in all the participating schools. The opportunity to sing at a Prom is something unheard of; to sing at the Royal Albert Hall at such a prestigious event is a real privilege.”

They will perform alongside 120 other young singers from two other boroughs, as well as the Bach Choir and the National Youth Choir.
