Plans for a new Harrow police station have been put on hold by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

The station in Northolt Road, South Harrow, had been due to be replaced as part of a review of Metropolitan Police buildings.

Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas said: "This is a huge disappointment because the current police station is not fit for purpose and the borough commander and police in Harrow have been desperate for a purpose-built police station.

"Members of the public often have to wait outside the police station if others are in the queue, it's a nightmare to park and police say operationally it's a nightmare.

"We want to give the police the best amenities to help them tackle antisocial behaviour in the borough and I will be trying to persuade Boris to reconsider."
