A special visit lay in store for more than 25 new junior police cadets who joined an exciting new scheme.

Last month Harrow police launched the Junior Volunteer Police Cadets for children aged 10 to 13, with more than 30 children from schools across the borough signing up to take part, and on Monday last week Harrow chief inspector Gary Warby came to greet them at their weekly meeting place in Harrow High School, in Gayton Road, Harrow.

He said: “I have to say I am very impressed with all the cadets.

“They are energetic and what really shows they all want to be here and volunteer their time.

“It’s very encouraging to have had so many young people take an interest in the cadets and it will not only benefit them but also the whole community.”

The programme aims to provide a safe activity for the children as they make the transition from primary to secondary school.

Cadet coordinator PC Jeff Barnbrook said: “The new junior cadets has made a great start, they are a very enthusiastic group and we hope to get them involved with interesting activities over the coming months.”
