The neighbour of murdered 81-year-old Molly Morgan has spoken about his shock at her death.

David Thomas, 21, had lived next to the octogenarian for more than a decade and spoke fondly about his time growing up next door to her.

He said: "She was such a gentle and kind lady and I think it is disgusting that someone could do this.

"Growing up she would always bring me birthday and Christmas presents and she never forgot.

"She was always stopping by to give us vegetables she had grown in her allotment, she was just that kind of person, always doing something for someone.

"She absolutely loved gardening and she always seemed to keep herself busy.

"This has just come as such a shock."

Mrs Morgan was on her way to help teach a class at Kenton Library last night when she was robbed.

She was injured during the attack and died early this morning.

Police have launched an investigation but no arrests have been made.
