A PREGNANT mother from Harrow last week admitted lying to FBI agents about being embroiled in an apparent terrorism plot.
Nadia Rockwood, originally from Harrow, was hauled before the US courts with her husband Paul Rockwood, also known as Bilal, – who also pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI.
According to the plea agreements and other documents released by the Alaskan department of Justice Paul Rockwood, 35, converted to Islam in late 2001, or early 2002, while living in Virginia, and later became a strict adherent to the violent jihad-promoting ideology of cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki.
He is said to have researched explosives and remote triggering devices and in 2009, he began sharing his ideas about committing acts of domestic terrorism with others, including the possibility of using mail bombs or killing targets by gunshot to the head.
By early 2010, he formalized his list to include 15 specific targets all outside the State of Alaska and in April this year, he gave his written target list to 36-year-old Nadia, who, knowing of its purpose, carried it for him on a trip to Anchorage.
Agents questioned Nadia Rockwood on May 19 about transporting the target list written by her husband and she made false statements, including deceptively claiming that she was delivering a book.
After admitting she wilfully lied to agents, the mother-of-one, who is also said to be five months pregnant, was last week sentenced to five years probation while her husband was handed an eight year jail term.
Despite her admittance last week her parents, who still live in Harrow, denied the allegations.
Samuel and Piri Hawes, of Ruth Close, Stanmore, have insisted their daughter is not a terrorist.
Mr Hawes, a 67-year-old engineer, told the Daily Mail: "I know my daughter. We are very close. She is not in any way a terrorist. Paul has strong views but he loves America."
Mr Hawes added that he had spent years arguing with his son-in-law about religion and had received threatening emails from him after a row about Islam.
The couple said Mr Rockwood converted to Islam after 9/11 in alleged attempt to control a serious drink problem.
Their daughter, who was brought up as a strict Roman Catholic in Harrow and attended the Italia Conti performing arts school, where she studied ballet and jazz, met Mr Rockwood while working as a bridal model in Japan.
The pair then moved to America where she was employed as a professional dancer.
