Harrow Council has announced plans to reduce the number of hours the borough's libraries open and make redundancies in order to save £120,000.

Councillor David Ashton revealed today that under the proposed budget 4.5 equivalent jobs in library services will be made redundant.

Nine of the borough's libraries will have their opening hours cut, closing at 5.30pm instead of 8pm on Mondays, and 1pm instead of 5.30pm on Fridays.

The only two libraries which will be unaffected are the Civic Centre Library and Gayton Road Library.

The budget is due to go before a Harrow Council cabinet meeting next Thursday.
