AN ECO-FRIENDLY fleet of cars were unleashed by Harrow Council this week in a bid to slash emissions and transport bills.
In line with its regular seven year replacement of its fleet the council has this time opted for four ultra fuel efficient Diesel Smart Cars and five Vauxhall Combo Diesel Vans.
It is thought that these will cut around £12,000 from the council's annual transport bill as they are capable of doing up to three and a half times more miles per gallon than the nine Vauxhall Combo Vans they replace.
The new vehicles will also produce 25 per cent less carbon emissions.
Portfolio holder for Environment and Community Safety, Councillor Philip O’Dell, said: “The new additions to the council’s fleet provide excellent value for money and are much kinder on the environment.
"They are an example of our commitment to keeping the borough clean and green whilst managing the difficult financial situation”
