A Harrow man has been jailed for importing cannabis from South Africa.

Samuel Kelly, 58, was arrested at an address in Hillingdon after 18 kilos were seized by customs and excise officers at Heathrow in July. He was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on January 22 after pleading guilty.

Detective sergeant John Price said: "This work involved the Proactive Unit at Hillingdon Police working with HM Customs and Excise.

"Mr Kelly was targeted and received a sentence commensurate with his criminality. This sentence sends out a message that drug dealers and importers will be dealt with robustly."

Since this conviction, cannabis has since been reclassified as a Class B drug and the judicial system is supposed to treat offences around cannabis even more seriously.
