BUILDING has begun on four homes in Pakistan as the money raised for the Mayor of Harrow's Pakistan Flood Appeal inches closer to its £50,000 target.
Money has continued to come in since the appeal was launched by Harrow Mayor, councillor Asad Omar, back in August, and with the funds now at £41,096 key supporters of the appeal have begun work on the first homes.
Ilyas Khan, who has been instrumental in the fundraising, flew out to the northern region of Kohistan a few weeks ago to find families most in need of accommodation and has now started to lay down foundation work and construct basic shelters for the first four homes.
Work had to get under way before the target was met as those constructing the homes face a race against time to get necessary works done before the harsh winter sets in. It is hoped that the target will be met, in order to fund the construction of 10 family homes, with a final push at the start of December.
A live musical event has been planned for December 4 at the Zoroastrian Centre in Alexandra Avenue, Rayners Lane, with all proceeds going to the appeal.
