A CRICKET match in Harrow was abandoned after a player was allegedly attacked by a member of the opposition.

The game between the Saturday First XI sides of home team West Harrow CC and visitors Ealing Three Bridges CC was called off two hours after starting at Headstone Manor Recreation Ground in Headstone Lane, Harrow, on Saturday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "At 2.59pm police were called to reports of an assault.

"On arrival police found a 34 year-old male being treated by paramedics for cuts to the mouth and left cheek.

"An altercation had taken place during a cricket match and the male had been assaulted by a player from the opposition team.

"A 36 year-old male was arrested at the scene and taken to a north-west London police station.

"He was bailed to return to the police station at the end of September."

It is not known for which of the teams the alleged aggressor and his alleged victim played for.

Neither club, nor the Middlesex Championship Division 3 First XI, have commented on the incident.
