CLEANER streets, a safer borough and a fairer society are the aims of the new Tory administration at the helm of Harrow Council.

Councillor Susan Hall and her Conservative group were voted back into power at an extraordinary full council meeting yesterday evening after the Tories and Labour combined to oust Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar and his minority Independent Labour administration of just eight members.

Ms Hall said today: "I'm very excited. I have got three main priorities that will be going forward with.

"The first one is a 'Cleaner' borough. My mailbag is absolutely full of complaints about dirty streets, unkempt parks and uncut grass.

"The second one is 'Safer'. That's my passion in life. The new Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens is making his life's work making Harrow the safest borough, and we will work with the police to help.

"The third is 'Fairer'. We're going to look at how we can reduce or at least freeze council tax.

"We must look after the disabled in the borough and look at things in general: are we acting fair towards everybody?"

Ms Hall said she will looking to pump money into the environmental department to improve the cleanliness of the roads and properly maintain the parks.

She hopes to invest in increasing the size of the fraud investigation and planning enforcement departments as part of a Spend To Save mentality.
Ms Hall said; "If we can fund things in a different way, we can still produce the services but reduce the cost to our residents, because it's all taxpayers money."

She gave sponsorship of the dog waste bins as an example.

Ms Hall said: "I want stability for the council going forward.

"With a Conservative administration you'll have a much better run administration and the finances will be looked after, and if you look after the finances, you can look after everything else: you have the money to look after the disabled, to look after the place, and to give back to our council tax payers."
