MANAGERS at Harrow Council could be made redundant in a bid to save £1million.

Three executive posts will be shelved as a result of the shake-up, while seven senior roles look set to go.

Harrow’s chief executive Michael Lockwood has launched a four week consultation on the proposed restructure as part of a bid to save £60m in four years.

Mr Lockwood said: “We are very conscious that residents and businesses are feeling the pain of the country’s economic problems. This means we are working very hard to find savings that do not impact on the front line services they value and rely on.”

The move comes just weeks after figures were released by London Assembly member Darren Johnson that show Mr Lockwood earns £195,965, having received a pay rise two years ago.

However, his pay has since been frozen for the past two years and and a council spokesman said no chief
officers in Harrow receive bonuses or performance related pay.

The new restructuring will be decided at a cabinet meeting in December.
