ORGANISATIONS can apply to rent a dilapidated former toilet block in the hope of turning it into a park cafe.

The 1930s building in West Harrow Recreation Ground off Butler Road, West Harrow, is being offered by owner Harrow Council although without the public funds for a major makeover.

The authority’s cabinet member for property and major contracts, Councillor Stephen Wright (Conservative) said: “This is an opportunity for a suitable individual or organisation to return this building back to beneficial use and improve the amenities available within the park by the addition of a café and public toilet.

“The successful applicant will be offered a lease of up to five years for the property.”

The future operator of the refreshments kiosk or coffee hatch - limited to hot drinks and packaged snacks due to a lack of a fresh food preparation area - must offer use of the wheelchair-accessible WC free of charge during opening hours.

The tenant will be responsible for applying for planning permission for a change of use.
