The Leader of Harrow Council will be spending time behind bars next month to raise money for charity.

Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar, will be locked up at Wealdstone Police Station on March 22 and released when people 'bail' him with a minimum of £1,000 for St Luke's Hospice in Kenton Road.

St Luke's is the local hospice for Harrow and Brent, and looks after people whose illnesses are no longer curable. They aim to enable them to achieve the best possible quality of life during the final stages of their illness. They offer the treatment of physical symptoms, but also strive to meet the emotional, psychological, spiritual and social needs of their patients.

Harrow Council Leader, Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar, said: "I will spend any amount of time in jail to show my support for St Luke's. This is a fantastic charity to support because the hospice goes to huge efforts to improve the quality of life not only for patients, but for their carers as well."
