Illegally parked council staff have had to pay £340 back to their employer after parking tickets were issued to them while on the job, driving council-branded vehicles.

Fernando Silverio, Harrow's head of service collections and housing benefits, confirmed the data after a freedom of information request was lodged by getwestlondon.

Over the past three years, there have been 11 times when staff – predominately from the authority's environmental department – were left red faced after parking enforcement staff had no choice but to give their council colleagues a ticket.

The amount owed would have been more, but some penalty charge notices were successfully challenged.
