THOSE with a range of hearing difficulties have been marking national Deaf Awareness Week.

The event, which started on Monday and finishes on Sunday, aims to educate about different types of deafness and methods of communication used, such as sign language and lipreading.

Asif Iqbal, president of Harrow Asian Deaf Club, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to be proactive in raising awareness of deaf people living in Harrow, as well as to promote more deaf and hearing people to work together and learn how to communicate with each other.

“Harrow Asian Deaf Club is keen to work in partnership with other organisations and service providers to ensure their services are accessible to deaf people.”

The group is holding a Queen’s diamond jubilee celebration on Saturday, June 2 from 2pm to 9.30pm, at Bentley Day Centre, Uxbridge Road, Harrow Weald.
