TESCO have returned with an appeal to build a supermarket in Harefield.

The retail giant originally sought a planning application for a food store on Rickmansworth Road, Harefield last November and it was refused by planners on March 20.

Since then an appeal has been lodged asking planners to reconsider their decision for the site behind the Kings Arms, which used to be a petrol garage.

An appeal date has been set with an enquiry set to take place at the Civic Centre, Uxbridge on the 19 and 20 May at 10 am.

Residents are invited to the public enquiry and petitioners will have the opportunity to speak.

The Tenants and Residents Association have already expressed a desire to voice their opposition to the appeal.

A survey is currently being conducted by the Retailers and Residents Group to back opposition to the plans, which it is considered could harm surrounding businesses to the point of extinction.

Planning permission was originally refused on the grounds that there is insufficient room at the site for delivery vehicles to manoeuvre, and could put pedestrian safety at risk, which is especially pertinent given its proximity to the busy crossroads.

Tesco's confirmed an appeal has been lodged.
