A popular fishing lake has been closed to anglers.

Harefield Carp Lake, in Moorhall Road, is a working gravel pit, and an increase in the build-up of silt means the lake is now unsuitable for fishing.

The banks are also becoming unstable in some areas.

The 45-acre pit, which is operated by Boyer Leisure, contains carp and bream, some of which weigh more than 40lb.

A Boyer Leisure spokesman said: “We had to shut it because the silt is contaminating the water so it is no longer suitable for fish.

“The fish will probably be moved.”
