LOCAL songstress Katie Waissel has made it through to the final stages of the X Factor, despite a shaky final performance.

Ms Waissel was put through to the final 12 by Cheryl Cole - mentor to the girls category on this year's show - who said she was 'quirky and original.'

Her family run the trendy DNK boutique in High Street, Pinner, and her father told the Gazette that the inspiration for her outlandish outfits and unique style came from years of working behind the till and rifling through the clothes racks.

The 24 year-old, from Dairy Farm Lane, Harefield, confidently stated that she wanted to "be a legacy", before launching into a rendition of Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' for judges Cheryl Cole and Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, in her final audition at the judge's house.

She appeared to crack under the pressure, crying after the first few lines of her first attempt, but she managed to compose herself and finish the song.

Ms Waissel's progression to the latter stages of the competition has divided opinion. She bagged a spot at the expense of 18 year-old Gamu Nhengu, who many tipped as a favourite to win.

Cher Lloyd, 16, and Rebecca Ferguson, 24, complete the line-up for the girls.

All the acts will perform in the first of the live shows, next Saturday (9) at 7.40pm on ITV1.
