Staff at Dogs Trust Harefield are hoping potential dog owners have their hearts set on a leggy lurcher or a graceful greyhound as their rehoming centre "is full to the rafters" with them.

Six greyhounds - all ex-racers - and four lurchers are currently residents at the kennels.

They can be found ambling around on leisurely walks, snuggling up on a cosy duvet, or enjoying an afternoon snooze; three favourite hobbies of these laid-back and affectionate breeds.

Richard Moore, rehoming centre manager, thinks greyhounds and lurchers are wonderful dogs.

He said: “People are often put off by their size but breeds such as these are very gentle, hugely sociable and appreciative of human affection. They are also generally excellent with children.

"The six greyhounds and four lurchers we currently care for are absolutely adored by our dedicated kennel staff and will make exceptional pets!

“It is a huge misconception that greyhounds need lots of exercise – the complete opposite is true! They are actually quite lazy creatures and will need only a couple of short walks a day.”
