PEOPLE who give up their time to serve the community had their hard work recognised at the Hammersmith and Fulham Volunteer Centre awards.

More than 100 people, from IT tutors to prison mentors, visited Hammersmith Town Hall on June 8 to receive certificates for their commitment.

Mayor Belinda Donovan, volunteer centre director Marion Schumann and Councillor Marcus Ginn, community care leader, met volunteers who watched performers including comedian Geoff Schumann and the Sierra Afrique dance group.

Colin Liddell, of the All in Motion youth disability project, said: “It was amazing. The mayor was extremely kind to me and everyone had a really good time.”

Other winners included Stefan Alexander, of Green House Charity, and a team of core volunteers.

Ms Schumann said: “I am passionate about volunteering and our volunteers continue to give so much and this event is held to show our appreciation for their help in the local community.”

Ms Donovan added: “What a wonderful event to thank those volunteers who have so generously given their time. It is a real honour to be able to present these awards.”
