A ROBBER who dragged his 73-year-old victim along the pavement on the back of his bike has been jailed for four years.

David Aldis cycled up behind his victim, in Hibernia Road, Hounslow, on May 29 and grabbed hold of her handbag.

But the brave pensioner refused to let go and was dragged a short distance along the pavement by the 40-year-old, of Staines Road, Hounslow.

Two members of the public came to her aid, stopping Aldis as he tried to make his escape and detaining him until police arrived to make an arrest.

The woman suffered minor injuries and has made a full recovery.

Aldis admitted one count of robbery and at Kingston Crown Court, on July 11, was sentenced to four years in prison.

PC Dan Whitehead, of Hounslow Police, said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim and thanks to the prompt actions of passing members of public, the suspect was arrested at the scene.”
