Plans for a huge Tesco in King Street, Hammersmith, have been branded 'unacceptable' by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Developer St James Investments owns the site of Cineworld and earlier this year made a bid to redevelop the site into a Tesco superstore.

A letter to residents from cabinet member for strategy Cllr Mark Loveday states that the council believes the applications are unacceptable.

He wrote: "The council firmly believes that these applications would not provide the important wholesale regenerative benefits needed in this area. The council believes strongly that planning permission should not be granted."

The council refused to grant permission for the application but St James appealed. A hearing was due last Tuesday but the appeal has now been deferred to allow negotiations to take place between the two sides.

St James did not wish to comment.
