Politicians and neighbours are rallying the Mayor of London to urge him to reject plans to re-develop Riverside Studios.

Members of the Crisp Road Residents' Association are currently protesting outside City Hall in a bid to stop Boris Johnson from approving plans to demolish Riverside Studios to build an eight-storey block of luxury flats with TV studios.

They feel the development by Mount Anvil fails to meet the mayor's own affordable housing, design and traffic policies, although they do feel the studios need refurbishment but deserve far better than the current plans.

Their objections have been joined by Kit Malthouse, London Assembly member for West Central, Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston, Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter and Stephen Cowan, leader of Hammersmith and Fulham's Labour party.

However, Riverside Studios have always maintained they need to have the flats above the TV studios in order to pay for the new studios which are integral to keeping it as a major cultural centre.

Mr Malthouse, said: "The proposed plans put forward by the developer are substandard and I will be registering my support on behalf of the Crisp Road Residents Association in opposing the current scheme to the Mayor."

Mr Goldsmith added: "I will do my utmost to make sure the developers and local authority listen to local peoples’ concerns.”

The plans for Riverside Studios were approved by Hammersmith and Fulham Council a week before Christmas and Boris Johnson will give the final say at 3:30pm today (January 21).
