MP ANDY Slaughter swapped the cut and thrust of Parliament for the grimy banks of the River Thames this weekend.
The Hammersmith politician joined hundreds of volunteers for the annual Thames21 Deep Clean event, organised by the leading waterways charity, at Queen Caroline Draw Dock on Saturday.
Mr Slaughter spent an hour up to his knee in dirt and grime to take advantage of the lowest tides of the year and help clear tonnes of litter while archaeologists from Thames Discovery Programme were also on hand to examine any possible historic finds.
“Areas of foreshore normally covered by regular tides were exposed, allowing us to tackle the litter that most of us never see,” said a charity spokesman.
“The Deep Clean is one of our biggest annual volunteering events, and attracts people from far and wide to help clean-up some of the dirtiest stretches of the Thames.”
