HAMMERSMITH’S charity for the homeless, St Mungo’s, is launching a campaign to help vulnerable women.

The Hammersmith Road charity, which provides shelter and support, is launching a Rebuilding Shattered Lives campaign to raise awareness of problems faced by homeless women.

More than one in 10 of those sleeping rough in London are women and more than a third of St Mungo’s women clients who have slept rough say domestic violence led to their homelessness. Nearly half are mothers who have been traumatised by the loss of children or are struggling to cope with limited contact.

Charles Fraser, St Mungo’s chief executive, said: “Women who end up on the streets often have a complex mix of problems but the services available to them have been mainly designed for men. These services are facing cuts so we urgently need to try different approaches.

“At St Mungo’s we want to show good ideas and practice from across the UK and find ways of implementing that practice.”
