Volunteers at Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank have been struggling to deliver and collect much needed food after somebody attempted to break in to their van.

The Ford Transit, which has the foodbank's logo all over it, was found outside their headquarters in Christ Church, Fulham with a cut cable dangling beneath it on Monday (January 20) when volunteers went to deliver food to people in the borough who are struggling to afford meals.

It is now in the garage being repaired which means the foodbank are not able to collect and deliver food.

Luckily, The Upper Room - a Shepherd's Bush charity working with the socially disadvantaged - has loaned them one of their vans but it is costing the food bank.

So far, they have spent around £300 which is money they desperately need to feed people.

Daphine Aikens, charity manager, said: "We went to do a delivery and collection on Monday morning and saw a cable hanging down which was cut so we reported it to the police and they said it looked like it had been broken into and they'd been wearing gloves.

"It's really affected us, we can't do the extra collections we normally would. There are libraries who are just waiting for us to collect all their donations but we just can't.

"If people wanted to donate some money it would really help us to cover the costs of having our van out of action and to help us get food to those who really need it."

Donations an be made by cheque to Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank, Christ Church Fulham, 67 Studdridge Street, Fulham SW6 3TD.
