An engineer from Hammersmith has beaten dozens of other applicants to win a coveted apprentice role.

Ravenscourt Park resident Angela Crowther, has been chosen by Richard Coackley, incoming president of the institution of civil engineers (ICE) to be one of six young engineers who will work closely with him throughout his presidential term.

As part of the application, the 27-year-old was asked to submit 500 words on the global challenges she saw on the horizon and how civil engineers could help solve them.

She said: "I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to work with Richard throughout his presidential year, it is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the role and work of the ICE. I am particularly looking forward to working with the other apprentices to support the presidential theme of 'harnessing energy'".
