GURU Nanak Sikh Primary School has been rated 'outstanding' following an Ofsted inspection.

The school, in Springfield Road, Hayes, was visited by inspectors at the beginning of October, and last week teachers and pupils were told it had gained the highest rating in all judged criteria, including teaching quality, students' wellbeing and behaviour.

The accompanying report praised the 'inspirational leadership' at the school, and observed that pupils work beyond 'age-related expectations' in several subjects, including maths and ICT.

It adds: "[Pupils] are justifiably proud of their school and positively engage in activities to make it even better. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is exemplary and underpins the very strong ethos within the school."

Cathy Luxon, deputy headteacher, said: "This is the culmination of year's of hard work put in by everybody, from the pupils right up to the staff, governors and parents. It is a big team effort, and we are very proud of this achievement."

The school has 458 pupils on its roll, nearly all of them with English as a second language. From next September it will be integrated into the Guru Nanak Sikh Academy.
