MORE than 100 guests were treated to traditional Nepalese dancing during a fundraising night for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

Young people performed at the event, which was hosted for free at Harrow Borough Football Club’s Earlsmead Stadium in Carlyon Avenue, South Harrow, last Thursday.

Proceeds from the night will go to the charity’s regional branch, to help rehabilitate former servicemen and women, including members of the Gurkha community which organised the dinner.

Moti Lal Thapa, leader of the Gurkha community in Harrow, said: “This was the first time we’ve conducted this kind of event and people really enjoyed it.

“We hope to continue this and possible do it two or three times a year.”

Councillor Kairul Kareema Marikar, chairman of Harrow branch of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity – formerly known as the Army Benevolent Fund – said: “Thapa and his wife asked me if I would help them to do a curry night for The Soldiers Charity and I said yes.

“I back them and support them. I think everybody enjoyed themselves.”

Ms Marikar said the evening included entertainment, a raffle and a tasty Nepali curry.

The amount raised at the evening was still being counted as the Observer wen to press.
