A NEW 24-7 grime-busting hotline is now up and running to deal with any reports of fly-tipping and graffiti around the borough.

The council deals with around 500 reports of graffiti and 450 reports a month of fly-tipping and from December 1, anyone who spots anything unsightly can call the Grimebuster hotline any time of the day or night with the aim of it being removed within 24 hours.

Bigger items of furniture and electricals can be collected by the council for £20 and old fridges and freezers are collected for free.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment, said: "There is no excuse for fly-tipping and people should not have to put up with graffiti. I’m excited about this new service which will mean people can report an issue as soon as they spot it, and we will aim to clear it within 24-hours.

"I know the cleanliness of our streets is extremely important to residents and I know this new service will go even further to make Ealing an even better place to live."

Bulkier items can also be taken to recycling centres in Acton, Southall and Greenford, free of charge, and for more information, visit www.ealing.gov.uk/services/environment

The number for Grime-busters is 020 8825 8825 and for emergency cleansing, including fuel spills or dead animals found in public places, people should call 020 8825 6000 from Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
