A SCOUTS' annual song and dance show could be cancelled at the last minute if hundreds of tickets are not sold in the next week.

The curtain is due to go up for three show-stopping nights at Greenford Hall on February 16, 17 and 18 - but only 80 out of 1,500 tickets have been sold.

An eleventh hour request for support comes from the Greenford and and District Scouts and Greenford Guides who are desperate to keep the show alive.

Around 50 youngsters and scout leaders have been practising their lines and dance moves for the Lights on Broadway production since September.

Director Lynnsey Fitzgerald said: "Great efforts were being made to raise awareness of the event to increase sale, but if there is not a significant improvement over the next week the decision may have to be taken to pull the plug.

"We would like as many tickets to be sold as possible. If we get to 800 or more then the show will go ahead, but if it is less than that it may be impossible to go ahead.

"That would be a great shame. The Gang Show has been staged in Greenford for 61 years and no one wants it to come to an end."

At least 800 tickets must be sold to cover the cost of costumes and hire of the hall. More than 1,000 loyal residents came out to celebrate the 60th anniversary performance last year.

Eight-year-old Chelsea is looking forward to taking to the stage for the first time.

She said: "I'm so excited at performing in my first Gang Show. we have been rehearsing since last September and I've made so many new friends."

Producer Tracy Minson said the cast are staying optimistic as they make the finishing touches but is concerned many of their regulars may think Greenford Hall is still closed.

The 1960s building was closed for six months last year for vital renovation works, reopening just before Christmas.

Performers will sing big numbers including We Are the Champions, Rock Around the Clock and an Abba medley.

A team of 20 dedicated volunteers have helped make colourful costumes and a handmade set, whic hwill see a life-size 1950s car constructed for the main songs, Mustang Sally and Greased Lightning.

Tickets are £9 for adults and £8 for seniors and children. Call Roy Chick on 020 8578 4220 or visit www.greenfordscouts.org.uk/gangshow .
