A WRITER is trying to publicise his work as well as attempt to get his first adult novel out there.

Ron Finn, 55, wants to raise awareness of his children’s book, Unlikely Heroes, published in August 2012 in ebook format by Aventura - a company based in West London which concentrates on new writers.

The adventure story, for children between six to 12 years old, is about two orphans whose lives are transformed when they end up on a magical journey to a land called Melodrama.

Mr Finn, of Beechwood Avenue, Greenford , is now in the process of completing a series of short stories and is working on an adult novel, Redemption.

The author, who has been writing for ten years, said: “I’m quite versatile but I like the fantasy side of things. My writing process is flexible but I find at night I am more inspired.

“When I left school I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, I left without any qualifications. I like the escapism that comes with writing.”

Mr Finn, who has been living in Greenford for about 30 years, said that it was his family and friends that pushed him to try and get his material recognised.

He said his wife Janet has been his rock and Unlikely Heroes’ protagonist Emily, 8, was inspired by his daughter Naomi who is now 25.

Mr Finn has also had a collection of 25 poems published.

His first, written around 15 years ago, was about a tin of baked beans and was secretly sent off by his wife to First Time Publishing.

This led to Mr Finn being invited to read some of his work to an audience at Hastings Poetry Festival.

He then went on to write a further 24 poems for United Press, adding to his CV.

Mr Finn describes his style as ‘fantasy science fiction.’ He said: “My first grandchild brought out the child within me. My wife said I never grew up past 10.”
