A STRIPPING grandad who was rejected by Britain's Got Talent producers has performed to a million viewers on Sky One.

Ron Sampson, 47, of Lilian Board Way, Greenford, was turned away from the ITV1 talent show in November 2009 but refused to be deterred.

He applied to Sky One's Got To Dance and this time impressed made it in front of judges Ashley Banjo, lead choreographer of Diversity, Kimberley Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls and Adam Garcia of Tap Dogs. His performance whipped up the cheering audience and was screened on Sunday to 1.1 million viewers.

The delivery driver supplements his income by stripping but his act, which sees him throw off the guise of an old man to jump into some dramatic street dancing, is more family friendly.

Mr Sampson, who has a five-year-old grandson, said he was delighted to have been chosen to appear on television this time and is not disheartened that he didn't make it to the live final.

He added: “I said I hadn't gone there to be crowned Britain's best dancer, there are lots of younger, more talented dancers out there. I just want to entertain people, the judges were looking for perfection. Kimberly gave me a gold star, but I needed at least one more to go through. But I was happy with that, happy that the public loved the performance.”

Mr Sampson became a podium dancer when he was 36 and started stripping soon after when a friend suggested he would do well at it. But, buoyed by the experience at Got To Dance, he plans to move away from taking his clothes off to concentrate on his comical dance routines.

He said: “I have been making promo discs and offering to perform at events, eventually I want to start a roadshow to display my act because I do more than just what people saw on Got to Dance.”

Those wishing to check out Mr Sampson's Act can still see the programme by going to Sky Player at www.sky.com or watching his own video on You Tube by searching for 'one funky grandad – old school boogie'.
