The Green Party has announced its candidate for Feltham and Heston in next May's general election.

Tony Firkins, who stood in Syon at this year's local elections, was today confirmed as the party's choice to take on Labour incumbent Seema Malhotra and her Tory rival Simon Nayyar.

The party said he had lived in the ward of Syon for more than 30 years and worked for a mobile phone operator. It described him as an active campaigner against Heathrow expansion and air pollution.

"As a keen cyclist and walker, he wishes to see a Hounslow less dominated by the car and a much greener Hounslow," it added.

Mr Firkins received 487 votes in this year's local elections, putting him 11th out of 12 candidates in Syon.

IT consultant Daniel Goldsmith has already been announced as the group's candidate for Brentford and Isleworth next May.
