Protesters have bombarded the council with objections to plans to dispose of one of the last pieces of Green Belt land in their neighbourhood.

Harrow Council had received no complaints regarding its proposal to get rid of Wood Farm, in Wood Lane, Stanmore, at the start of the month.

But after campaigning from the Stanmore Society 354 people wrote in to protest against the plans before the consultation ended last Monday.

The land has been owned by the council since 1939 and CP Holdings, a construction company, which holds a long-term lease on part of the land.

The construction company applied for permission to demolish the existing farm buildings on the site and replace them with 10 new houses in August 2006.

John Williams, chairman of the Stanmore Society, has been distributing letters to local residents to get them behind the campaign. A decision is expected for September.
