WITH protest groups normally springing up wherever they propose to develop Tesco are usually seen as the big bad bullies in a town.

Their success (the company posted record profits this week) is often seen as a threat to small traders. But this time they can be seen as the white knight in the battle against recession as they plan to create 500 new jobs in North Greenford and regenerate the ailing Greenford Broadway with a massive superstore.

Let's just hope they keep their promises to provide jobs for local residents and to help rather than muscle out existing stores.

PEOPLE often have greater fears for their safety late at night when shadows fall on the streets and silence lingers in the air.

So news of a man being assaulted and stabbed during the afternoon within a short distance of Ealing Broadway centre is shocking and worrying.

While we have to commend the actions of the bus driver for his speed in dialling for the ambulance and the prompt arrival of the medical team, more action is needed to prevent knife crime.

Ealing already has extra police on patrol. They cannot be everywhere and we should all keep an eye out to prevent further crime.
