The new owner of a Golborne Road bar faced a litany of noise complaints at his other venue in South London, it has emerged.

Akin Afe, who recently took over bar Number 10, was hauled before Southwark council's licensing committee in the summer of 2006 for allowing his other premises, Miura Bar in Camberwell, to cause noise late into the night.

The council received 23 complaints of noise coming from Mr Afe's bar between July 29 and September 15 that year, twice prompting the seizures of sound systems.

It has raised concerns among North Kensington residents, wary of a large late-night venue opening in the area.

Mr Afe has already stirred debate among locals after painting over a large, popular mural on the the side of his building.

Golborne ward councillor Pat Mason said late-night noise will not be tolerated.

"We'll leave Mr Afe alone if he behaves himself, but I am aware of the goings on in Camberwell and any entertainment premises causing noise and nuisance to our residents will face the application of the full letter of the law."

Mr Afe is believed to be seeking a clear-the-air meeting with local councillors.

Southwark Council licensing documents revealed the extent of the problems at Miura bar.

"The sub-committee found it significant that the premises was re-equipped with music making equipment and noise nuisance was witnessed less than 24 hours after the seizure," it reads. "We have decided to exclude from the licence the licensable activity of recorded music. We believe this to be the underlying cause of noise nuisance and any measures suggested as put in place to deal with it have been ignored."

At the time Mr Afe said he was in hospital, so unable to directly handle the complaints.

When pressed by the London Informer to comment on his noisey past, Mr Afe said: "I can assure locals there will be no problems with Number 10."
