I felt I had to write to the Chronicle after reading the latest articles in the local press regarding the areas to the front and rear of the shops in Salisbury Road, near the old Beaver pub.

I have great respect for my good friend Alf Chandler, who has been relentless in trying to get the area improved.

I have lived in Beavers Lane for 37 years, having come here just after the Beavers Estate was completed, which itself has improved very well in the past few years.

However, to be perfectly blunt, for more than 20 years the area to the front of the shops, car park etc, and behind has been a disgraceful eyesore.

Only last Friday at around 5pm I noticed three or four official looking people armed with cameras and papers viewing the area AGAIN and no doubt they will have their pictures in the paper and there will be a whole lot more paperwork involved.

But nothing has or is actually being

done. These people obviously get paid for visiting the site, taking pictures and making reports about why the site looks the same, if not worse, than it did 20 years ago.

Being self-employed I carry out work and people pay me to see an end result, but there does not seem to be an end result here.

The council obviously has the powers to do something, so it is about time it did so.

I think the same can be said about the Hermitage at Heston - always plenty of letters/pictures and meetings but no action.

I thought there was an old saying 'actions speak louder than words'. BARRY RAYMOND Beavers Lane, Hounslow.
