A 13-YEAR-OLD volunteer is the latest nominee for the Feltham Citizen of the Year Awards.

Shawnee Nash, 13, of Watermill Way, was nominated by Laura Ashby from Feltham Arts. The Feltham Community College student goes to the Feltham Arts office after school as a volunteer to help prepare activities.

A spokesman for Citizen of the Year said: "She is talented and cre- ative and a real rarity, considering she is 13 and so willing to give up her own time."

Shawnee's mother, Charlene Woodcock, said: "I am really proud of her and it's great to hear that she has been nominated for the awards. Even though she is only 13, she does things that you wouldn't expect a 13-year-old to do. She has got so much ability and she goes out and looks for things she wants to get involved with."

The awards are run by The Centre, Feltham, in association with the Hounslow Chronicle.

So far, 15 local people have been nominated by friends and family members for the annual award scheme, which highlights the work of local heroes in the community.

The scheme, launched in 2008, aims to recognise members of the public who go out of their way to help others in times of need or crisis, and are open to anyone in the Feltham area.

Entries must be in by Friday, March 11, and the finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges, includ- ing centre manager Lorraine Eggleton, local historian Eddie Menday and the Chronicle's Feltham reporter, Jessica Thompson.

All nominators, their friends and families will be invited to an awards presentation at the community room at The Centre, Feltham. All nominees will receive a certificate.
