Nine more youths are on trial in connection with a vicious gang revenge attack that left an innocent university student dead.

Yasin Abdirahman was stabbed to death after members of the MDP gang travelled on the 207 bendy bus to Southall to avenge the theft of one of a mobile phone, the Old Bailey heard.

Up to 25 youths from West Ealing, Acton, Shepherd's Bush and Southall are said to have headed to the Windmill Park Estate to launch the attack on the 22-year-old, wrongly believing him to be a member of the rival Grit Set gang.

Hooded and masked killers chased the victim brandishing sticks, broken bottles and knives before confronting and setting upon him, the Old Bailey heard. He was stabbed in the head three times on September 3, 2007.

Mr Abdirahman, a pharmacy student at London Metropolitan University, managed to flag down a motorist who took him to Ealing Hospital, where he fell into a coma and died a week later.

Three youths aged 15, 16, and 17 were convicted of murder in January following a two-and-a-half month trial at the Old Bailey.

Nine youths aged between 15 and 20 - including a promising junior footballer - also went on trial this week in connection with the attack. They are not accused of killing Mr Abdirahman, and all nine deny conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. None of the defendants can be named.

The trial continues.
