NEWS for bus passengers in Hillingdon has got even worse this weekend, the bus strike is set to continue throughout Saturday as well as Friday.

First have confirmed that their drivers have voted for 48 hours of industrial action starting from 12.01am on Friday and lasting until the clock strikes midnight on Saturday.

Routes U1, U2, U3, U4, U5, U10, A10 and N207 are all expected to be affected around Uxbridge, although it is possible a minimal service will operate on some routes.

Adrian Jones, managing director for London and Berksire, has criticised the decision by the drivers union Unite to vote for action.

He said: "First's bus drivers are already among the best paid bus workers in London.

"Between 2003 and 2007, First's bus drivers' pay increased by 34%, during which time inflation has increased by only 16%.

"Most of the drivers receive over £25,000 a year and this rises to over £30,000 a year for a normal rostered week for over a quarter of drivers."

Taxi drivers will no doubt be rubbing their hands after reporting a boost in trade in short journeys during the last strike on August 26.
