A CHILDREN'S talent show and a sponsored walk have been announced to help pay for this year's Christmas lights in Whitton.
Whitton Business Association (WBA) needs £10,000 to pay for the festive illuminations this year, with the big switch-on due to take place on November 24.
Richmond Council has chipped in with £2,750, but the business association has asked residents to dig deep as it looks to make up the difference.
It has organised a children's talent contest, Whitton Wow Factor, with all profits going towards the lights fund.
This Sunday (October 16) is the last chance for youngsters to audition for the competition, ahead of the finals on Sunday, November 20, in the function room of the Winning Post pub, in Chertsey Road.
Contestants can show off any skill, from comedy to music, with prizes for winners in the two age groups, five to 10 and 11-16.
Entry costs £5 each or £2.50 per person for groups. To arrange an audition, call WBA secretary Kate Turner on 0790 3911 516 or pop into Whitton's Wishes charity shop, in the High Street. Tickets to the final, beginning at 6pm, will cost £8 (£5 concessions).
A Light Up Whitton sponsored walk will take place on November 20, from 9am to 1pm. All entrants will receive a medal and a Christmas hat. Entry is £8 (£6 for children), £20 for a family (two adults, two children) and £2 for dogs. More details and entry forms are available from Nix Flower Studio, Whitton Pet Centre and the Golden Grill.
Father Christmas will switch on the lights on Thursday, November 24, at 5pm. There will be entertainment and charity stalls in the High Street on the day from 3-8pm.
