Children and their parents taking part in a 5k fun-run raised over £5,000 for a new school playground in Shepherd’s Bush.
Around 40 pupils from Wendell Park and their parents joined the Gunnersbury Park Run on Saturday (October 3) morning to help collect the £40,000 needed for the dream playground at the school in Cobbold Road.
The PTA, which arranged the run, is aiming to raise £10,000 for the playground, and managed to collect nearly £5,500 over the weekend.
Organiser Pye said: “It’s just brilliant, we’re staggered at the amount raised. If I could bottle and sell how I’m feeling I’d be rich.”
Help was provided on the day by smoothie company Innocent, which handed out hundreds of drinks, Tesco which gave an apple to each runner, and logistic shipping company DSV, which provided water for the thirsty participants.
Amanda added: “I can’t thank everyone who took part or sponsored people enough.. Without these people it just wouldn’t have worked. It’s great coming up with an idea but that means nothing unless people come along and run and people give money.”
