PIECES created by some of the most famous artists from the UK will be auctioned off by Fulham students to help fund their new sixth form centre.

Lady Margaret School, in Parsons Green, will officially unveil their new Olivier Centre in September which will allow them to provide spaces for 140 more girls.

Funding was secured for it to be built through donations but the school also promised it would help pay back some of the money themselves and hope to bring in thousands of pounds with the glitzy art:auction on July 1.

Students, staff and parents used their contacts to get the artwork donated by artists including iconic David Bailey CBE, Sir Peter Blake, Anthea Craigmyle, Terence Donovan, and Edmund de Waal, professor of ceramics at University of Wesminster.

TV presenter and journalist Janet Street Porter, a former Lady Margaret pupil and appeal patron of the centre, persuaded friend Tracey Emin to donate limited photograph 'Space Monkey' and work with Anya Hindmarch to reproduce the image on an exclusive bag.

Adrian Biddel, head of 19 th Century European Painting at Sotheby's and parent of a pupil at the school, will be auctioneer on the night.

Margaret Magnusson, one of the organisers, said: "There is a strong art emphasis at the school and a lot of our students have completed placements at studios across the capital.

"They have picked up some brilliant contacts who have been so generous. We are really hoping the night will be a great success and that we can raise some good totals.

"There is a big art community in the area also so we hope they will all come out and support us."

Bidding starts at the school at 7.30pm. Entrance by catalogue, available for £5 from www.artauctionlms.org or £2 on the door.
