A Fulham woman was shocked to find her kitten in hot pursuit of a fox.

Grandmother Joan Caruana, 73, of Burnthwaite Road, has been worried for over a year about the den of foxes which have taken up residence at the corner of her road near the scout hut.

After her husband Carl died on December 12 last year, her children gave her a black kitten to keep her company, but she started to worry for its safety after seeing the foxes on the prowl.

Yesterday she saw what she thought was a cat chasing a dog - but to the pensioner's surprise, the pursued turned out to be one of the local fox posse  -and the pursuer was kitten Chas, who is named after her late husband.

"I thought, that can't be my kitten chasing it. I tried to call him in but he just looked back and then carried on chasing the fox. They couldn't catch each other but it looked to me like the cat was in charge. I had to shake a tin of chicken to get him back inside."

Mrs Caruana said she can see the foxes every day. "They come out about 7 or 8 o'clock at night. It's getting earlier now that it's getting dark sooner and when they mate they make this awful yowling noise. I have lived in Fulham all my life and I have never seen this many foxes. I'm frightened for the children that play at the back of my house."
