A FULHAM dance charity hopes to get disadvantaged young people moving this summer by setting up a new evening club.
The Flatfeet dance company will run workshops for teenagers at the Brunswick Club, in Haldane Road, on a Tuesday night throughout July.
If popular, the company will look to set up a daytime programme that would run throughout the holidays until September.
Community dance development manager, Maxine Phillips, said: “We’ve been given this space at the Brunswick Club free and we wanted to test the waters to see if young people would be interested.
“We wanted to give them something to do, give them something they can take creative control over.
“We’ll be running it for the next few weeks and depending on numbers we’ve got the potential to run a summer camp. It’s £2 a class as we want to make it affordable to any kids in the area.
“Our workshops and classes are available to people from all aspects of the community and are designed to suit the needs of everyone.”
The Peterborough Road-based company gained charity status earlier this year and wants to branch out further into the community by setting up dance sessions for single mums and elderly people and run an after-school dance programme.
Ms Phillips, 24, said: “The after school programme would be for dancers who want to take it further. Young people would be selected for the free scheme and we would help them put together a portfolio and put them through a national qualification.
“We’ve all the dance teachers on standby, we now just want to drum up the interest.”
