A FELTHAM fraudster has been jailed for 10 months for using a false identity in an attempt to get a British passport.

Md Ziaur Rahman, 33, of Leigh Place, admitted two counts of possession of a false identity document and was sentenced last Wednesday (May 1) at Isleworth Crown Court.

Immigration enforcement officers were alerted when Rahman submitted a birth certificate and Bangledeshi passport under the assumed name of Sadique Miah, which contained a false residency permit.

Officers discovered that he had used the assumed Miah identity to open bank accounts and obtain work in the UK. He had originally come to the UK legally on a work permit back in 2004.

Rahman was arrested on April 16 at his home address and later charged with two counts of possession of a false identity document.

Assistant director Sarah Burton, from the Home Office West London Immigration Enforcement team, said: "Rahman seems to have built his life in the UK on a lie and for a time successfully managed to keep under the radar of the authorities. However, there was only so long he could evade detection."
